Frequently Asked Questions

Q. What exactly is a networking event?

A. Typically, a networking event is a members-only affair, consisting of many suited & booted individuals trying to collect as many business card contacts and sales leads as possible for their company.

We, on the other hand, provide a more relaxed and informal environment, (there is no membership fee) where people can mingle & chat on a more enjoyable social level, picking up new useful contacts for future business opportunities, which, in-turn can lead to new friendships forging.

Q. What do I do at these events?

A. You simply turn up on the evening and enjoy the event. Introduce yourself to new people, or, if you’re shy, let us do the introducing for you! We can connect you with all walks of life from different business sector backgrounds.

Q. What type of people come to these events?

A. There are a large variety of people from different backgrounds and professions who attend these events. They include solicitors, digital experts, politicians, advertising & promotions executives, teachers, creatives, property gurus, marketeers, civil servants, media specialists, restaurateurs, accountants and recruitment consultants to name but a few!

Q. How do I get the most out of a networking event?

A. You only get out as much as you put in. These events are all about plucking up the courage to get out there and connect with people you would never usually have met. This is your chance to gain extra contacts and increase your own personal network of business contacts and social circles. This is a people orientated event and everyone’s in the same boat – so join in and have fun!

Q. Can I come on my own?

A. Yes, absolutely! Many people come to these events on their own. If you’re finding it difficult to introduce yourself to new people, then simply approach one of the friendly Village Circle organisers, who will be only too happy to help you mingle and make new connections.

Q. How much do they cost?

A. The prices of our events vary depending on the format of the evening. Our aim is to make them as affordable as possible so you feel you’ve had value for your money! They can range from £5 to £10 – and any special events may cost more – but we’ll always tell you about this in advance.

Q. What do I get for my money?

A. You get a welcome drink on arrival, nibbles of some description, the chance to mingle and network with other LGBT professionals, the chance to enter our prize draws to win some fantastic gifts, listen to one of our guest speakers, debate with like-minded individuals, discounts on meals in restaurants, introduction to key members of the LGBT community, opportunity to make new friends for your social circle, contribute to a fantastic charity/cause and many other things besides.

Q. What type of events do you organise?

A. Our events are varied and can range from a straight forward networking event, to guest speaker events, political hustings evening, charity fund-raising events, a party with live DJ, live acts and musicians, wine & cheese tasting and cultural nights. We are always open to new ideas & suggestions you may have!

Q. Is there any way I can promote my own business at your event?

A. Absolutely! We have sponsorship packages ranging from £250 – £1,000 for companies who want to promote themselves to our guests. There is a whole host of benefits for this sponsorship package. Contact us for more details.

Q. Is this event just for gay people?

A. Village Circle events are for the whole LGBT community and their friends. So if you have any LGBT friendly straight friends that would like to join us, then they are more than welcome.

Q. Can I bring my straight friends?

A. Yes, just so long as they are LGBT friendly and realise & respect the fact that the majority of guests attending our event will be from the LGBT community.

Q. Do you just hold these events in Manchester’s Gay Village?

A. Village Circle events are held in a whole variety of venues – both straight and gay. We pick places that range from the elegant, through to funky urban spaces. They will include bars, hotels, restaurants, members clubs, theatres and art galleries. That’s the joy of our events – you never know quite what to expect. We are also looking to hosting future events in Liverpool, Leeds and Cheshire areas.
